“Burnout is what happens when you try to avoid being human for too long” -Michael Gungor

You’ll receive your session on day 8. I recommend listening to the session at least three times during our 30 days together. Note that the session can be listened to at anytime thereafter for further relief and you can continue to receive benefit from these session for many months and years to come.

Why do 30 days of self-care?

(First I have to qualify this, don’t ‘do’ it, put the need to succeed on the back-burner and come explore and play! Okay, back to the info…)

If you’re like me, you may have bought into the traditional view that self-care means adding to your to do list, beating yourself up for not having done it before (perhaps to the point of not wanting to even think about doing it again) or if you’re just plain numb to the suggestion because you’re busy, you’ve tried it, it hasn’t worked, etc.

I promise (and I never say those words lightly) that we will be transforming the concept of self-care for you. How can you truly honour yourself, your needs and your life that seems to pull you all over, especially when you try to implement something new for yourself that you know is healthy, that you know would make you feel more human, that you know would give you relief?

First know that for some of you self-care may look like adding one more thing to your plate, at first – then through the practice of it, it becomes the thing that lightens your load. Change, for most, is unsettling. If you come to self-care from the place of wanting to use it to get more done, have more balance, have more period, then you may need to re-evaluate. Self-care, in it’s truest form in my experience, is done dynamically.

Who we are changes daily/hourly/more perhaps and what you need changes similarly. Think of self-care as the never-ending practice of assessing “what is it I need in this moment?”. Life may be harmonious in that moment, or it may be a roller-coaster – regardless, what is it that you most need.

Self-care seemed like total drudgery when I first came across the concept. I was a workaholic and studyaholic, working 20 hrs a week and studying medical school full time. Not shocking that I developed cancer in my second year of medical school as I had lived life with my foot on the gas pedal for years straight, without relief. Totally structured, no room for anything else or the delicate house of cards may come tumbling down.

What’s different for me now? My only thing that’s an absolute routine currently is that the dogs get walked first thing in the am or right after my am workout if I do the 6am gym class. Even that’s in flux as my husband has more time at home right now so he often takes them. That and drinking water diligently – but my body lets me know that’s what I need, I don’t have to ‘push’ for that so I don’t really think of it as routine, it’s just become natural. Some people thrive off of routine – was totally that person for a long time – well, perhaps minus the word ‘thrive’ as I was a slave to the 90+ hr weekly schedule.

Now, not so much, other than the basics that I know I’ll get to at some point throughout my 24hrs, and add in whatever else feels right for me. That’s typically dog walk, yoga or gym – rarely but sometimes both, water, great food (mostly healthy, some days it’s wine and chips and brie – still meets the ‘great’ part for me ?, sauna (I often work from the sauna, in fact I am right now!), cuddles with my husband Dave/dogs, energy work. The other aspects to self-care simply evolved over time and aren’t necessarily daily.

I found if I set a routine there would be times that just wouldn’t work and then I’d beat myself up till I found the energy to begin again – sound familiar? So I ditched the rigidity, got a BreakThrough session, turned up a belief system that I have to be destroyed so I could get to rebuild (and I love building things!). With that addressed consistent self-care for myself evolved nicely over the past decade.

In our go go go worlds, it’s easy to see that juggling work, family, health, etc often leads to a demanding schedule. More pressure, more stress means more anxiety. Combine that with seemingly less time to take care of ourselves and you’ve got a recipe for burnout. Exhaustion and fatigue give rise to all those sabotages you use, preventing optimal health.

Ready to hit your “pause” button and find a different way? Commit to putting yourself and your health first so you an both play the game of life with greater ease as well as perhaps take stock and change how it us you’re ‘doing’ life. Come find play and passion and feel human again.

There’s always another way.

Come explore what drives you, what you’re getting from it, how it’s been serving you, how it hasn’t and step into another way to experience your life.

We’ll be exploring a number of principles including vulnerability, strength, power, humility, honesty, authenticity, compassion, relationships (with self and others), intimacy, and sensuality.

The nature of group work allows, from a quantum physics understanding of increasing observation, for exceptional effectiveness.

“Every session it feels like you’re treating just me, are you sure these sessions aren’t just for me?” is common feedback received when working with group BodyTalk sessions, pre-recorded or live.
